Community Language Learning (CLL) Revisited: An Integrative Review of Pedagogical Benefits and Implementation Challenges
Abstract
This study presents a SWOT analysis of the Community Language Learning (CLL) method based on six recent academic articles published between 2020 and 2025. CLL, a humanistic and learner-centered approach, is recognized for its ability to reduce learners' anxiety, build strong teacher-student relationships, and support motivation, particularly in adult and ESP (English for Specific Purposes) learning contexts. The analysis identifies several strengths, including emotional support, collaborative learning, and adaptability. However, notable weaknesses include students’ dependency on the teacher, lack of structured content, and challenges in implementation in large or rigid classroom settings. The findings also highlight opportunities for integrating CLL with digital tools and blended learning environments, while threats include institutional resistance and limited teacher training. The study concludes that while CLL offers significant pedagogical value, its successful implementation requires careful adaptation, institutional support, and professional development for educators. This abstract contributes to a deeper understanding of CLL’s practical strengths and limitations and offers recommendations for optimizing its use in diverse educational contexts.
